What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional therapy is a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on improving health and preventing or managing different health conditions through food and dietary changes. By assessing your diet, lifestyle, and health goals a nutritional therapist can develop personalized nutrition plans tailored to your individual needs.
The goals of nutritional therapy may include:
- Improving nutrient intake: Nutritional therapists help you ensure you are eating a balanced diet that includes all essential nutrients necessary for your health and wellbeing.
- Addressing health concerns: Nutritional therapy can be used to address or help prevent health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions and more.
- Helping you manage your weight: They can work with you to help you develop sustainable eating habits that support healthy weight loss or gain, or maintenance goals.
- Promoting gut health: Your nutritional therapist can help you to focus on supporting digestive health through dietary interventions and lifestyle changes.
- Managing food sensitivities and allergies: Your nutritional therapist can help you identify and manage your food sensitivities, intolerances, or allergies by understanding and adjusting your dietary requirements.
- Enhancing sports performance: If you are physically active or participate in sports, nutritional therapy can be beneficial to help you enhance your performance, improve recovery, and prevent injuries through proper nutrition and hydration strategies.
Nutritional therapy may involve various strategies, including dietary modifications, supplementation, lifestyle changes, and behavior modification techniques. By addressing the root causes of health issues and supporting the body’s natural healing processes, nutritional therapy aims to promote long-term health and vitality. It is often used as part of an integrative approach to healthcare, working in conjunction with other complementary therapies and conventional medical treatments.
